Some dentists believe root canals make the perfect breeding ground for bacteria that cause these fatal illnesses.
Root canal treatment involves hollowing out a tooth and then filling it with a latex-like substance. This prevents blood circulating in the tooth.
However, there remain miles of tiny blood vessels branching out from the ‘dead’ tooth. Bacteria hide out in this warren of tunnels where they are mostly safe from the body’s immune defenses and antibiotics.
